Guide to Viewing and Posting TikTok Stories

30 October 2023

Stories have become one of the most popular content formats on social media: 24-hour posts to interact with. TikTok, the short video app, also has their own version of this common feature.

The objective is to offer other types of content different from what TikTok already offers: duets, live videos, and long videos. You are probably already familiar with this feature which is available on Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and WhatsApp.

This article will break down Stories, how to use them, and what differences they have compared to other networks. This is a feature that isn’t as talked about on TikTok, meaning that there is still a lot of potential in using these to promote your brand.

What Are TikTok Stories?

TikTok stories are photo or video posts that last 24 hours on the social network and last for up to 15 seconds. After 24 hours, these disappear from users profiles.

If a user has uploaded a story, you will see a blue ring around their profile image. You can view the story by clicking on their profile icon. What’s interesting about this compared to other networks, is you can find and view Stories directly in the “For You” feed.

Stories Feature on TikTok Compared to Other Networks

Story Length

Although the famous 24-hour rules still stays true to TikTok, videos on Stories must be 15 seconds or less. This is much shorter compared to other networks Story features, such as Instagram, can be longer than 60 seconds.

Editing Possibilities

With TikTok stories, you personalize the content with the tools provided by the platform: for now, you can add stickers, text, music from the library, as well as effects or filters.

It seems that compared to other platforms, TikTok continues to have the most editing options compared to other networks.

Now, let’s see what similarities TikTok Stories have to other networks.

User Viewing

If you are a regular TikTok user, you already know that you scroll through either the “For You”, “Following”, or other feeds to find content. Unlike other networks that have a dedicated section for Stories in the app, on TikTok the only way to find Stories is scrolling through the main feeds.

Interactions

Unlike Instagram or Facebook, which allows you to reply to stories as a private message, on TikTok, the responses will be like a regular post. In other words, it will be public.

You can interact with the story with a public reply, such as commenting, liking, or sharing.

This is how TikTok Stories work, so prepare your strategy to share some exciting content on Stories and stay engaged with your audience!

And if you haven’t started on TikTok…
